Setting Movie Info

This tutorial shows how to set the annotations that show in QuickTime Player when the user looks at the info properties of the movie.

Introduction

QuickTime Player allows the viewer of a movie to see its annotations - pieces of information about the movie being viewed. These are shown on the user's machine even if they are just using the free QuickTime download, for example, under Windows XP they appear thus:

Step 1 - Click the "Movie Info..." button in the Movie area

The Movie Info button is at the bottom of the column of options to the left of the preview movie.

Filling in movie infoStep 2 - Fill in desired information

In the fields of the list, type any desired information. You can tab from field to field.

Not all fields have to be filled in. QuickTime supplies a large number of possible annotations; the ones listed in CubicConnector's Movie Info window are the ones most applicable to QuickTime VR movies.

Step 3 - Optionally choose to play the movie back full screen

Full screen check boxOn both Mac and Windows, QuickTime Player can play movies so they occupy the entire screen, temporarily hiding all other windows and the menu bar. This can have the effect of focussing the viewer's full attention on the movie. Often trailers downloaded from the QuickTime Movie Trailers site do this automatically.

High resolution QuickTime VR movies can often be quite effective when they occupy the entire screen, particularly under Windows where applications often take over the screen when they are launched.

To enable this option, simply click the checkox at the top of the Movie Info window.

Step 4 - Close the window and export your movie

When you next export your movie and play it in QuickTime Player, the Movie Info window (or Movie Properties -> Annotations as well if you are using QuickTime Player Pro) will show the added information.
