Polygonal Hotspots Tutorial

This tutorial demonstrates how to make polygonal hotspots, which differ from rectangular hotspots in that that can have more than four sides and thus follow the destination shape more precisely.

Introduction

Although we strongly encourage authors to make hotspots as large and encompassing as possible (a hotspot is really a LINK to the destination, rather than a graphical representation of it), sometimes there is a need to define irregular shapes. For this use, polygonal hotspots have been implemented in CubicConnector version 2.0. They are defined in a different way from the normal rectangular hotspots and the method is demonstrated in this tutorial.

Step 1 - Go to the Hotspots area

Select a node then move to the Hotspots area by clicking the "Hotspots" tab. Then choose the cube face you want to define the polygonal hotspot on.

Step 2 - Choose the polygonal hotspot mode

By default, rectangular hotspots are made. To change to polygonal hotspots, click the button representing the polygonal hotspots mode.

Step 3 - Define the hotspot

Whereas rectangular hotspots are defined with a click-and-drag motion, polygonal hotspots are defined with a CLICK-CLICK-CLICK-CLICK-CLICK to define the vertices of the polygon, then a DOUBLE-CLICK to close it.

Defining polygon alternativeAlternatively, if the last click is within 10 pixels are the starting point, the polygon will close automatically.

Step 4 - Resize/reshape the polygon if necessary

Changing polygon shapeIf you need to change the shape of the polygon, you can drag the white corner markers. The polygon will adjust its shape to include the new position.

This ends the tutorial.
